Inspiration Flags

In honour of Phillipa Hinds - Julie's childhood friend who died of cancer at the age of 39, Julie and some of Phillipas friends and family have set up the "enchanted cubbyhole." The enchanted cubbyholes first product, these inspiration flags, are the beginning of a range of products that will inspire people to face their cancer with love, determination and courage just as Julies friend Phillipa did. .

When Phillipa Hinds was a wee girl, she used to go next door to her neighbours house to play with her friend Julie. They both created a secret place called the "enchanted cubbyhole" which was the top part of Julie's wardrobe in her bedroom. There, they would light candles and eat Lollies and feel safe from the outside world.

Phillipa moved to Australia a few years later but still they remained the best of friends.

When Phillipa was 33 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a prolonged journey, Phillipa died at the age of 39 in March 2007.

Phillipa's approach to her life with cancer was through courage, frankness, nurturing, spirituality, love and determination.

Enchanted Cubbyhole has been established in honour of Phillipa and to make creations which inspire people to face their cancer with love, determination and courage.

The image of the dancer used in the Enchanted Cubbyhole product range has been chosen from a book called Come Dance with me.  This book was written by Phillipa’s mother Barbara and illustrated by her friend Pauline. The book was written about Phillipa’s cancer journey as a mother using dance as a way of Phillipa’s two young sons to connect with their mother’s memory.

These inspiration flags come in seven different designs entitled courage, determination, frankness, love, spirituality, nurture and hope. Each flag has its own inspirational message and colour based on one of the above values:

Hope Heals (white for hope)
Set your goals and begin your journey (orange for determination)
Ask direct questions, say what you mean (yellow for frankness)
Love yourself first then share it with others (green for love)
Meditate.  Take time to be at peace with yourself (purple for spirituality)
Pamper yourself, you deserve it (pink for nurture)
Find courage and strength to make every decision your own (red for courage)

These flags are individually hand-crafted and contain artwork from Dunedin artist Pauline Bellamy.
